Mumbai – The accused of sexual harassment with a six -year -old girl has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The Special Court of Thane has given this verdict.
Special Judge D.S. Deshmukh convicted a 38 -year -old man resident of Bhayandar. According to the government side, the incident took place in Bhayander on 11 February 2021. When the victim’s mother returned home from work, her daughter was missing and someone told her that the accused living in the neighborhood had taken the girl to have breakfast. The girl was found at the house of the accused and had two notes of 10 rupees in her hand. Later he told his mother that the accused had given him these money and took off his pants and touched him wrongly. The police arrested him the next day after a complaint was lodged against the accused.
The court said in its order that the sexual harassment incident on a girl should be taken seriously and should be strictly dealt with with such crimes. The court considered the mercy petition filed by the accused on the basis that he has been in jail since 2021 and his family is dependent on him.
The accused said that he is 38 years old and has been in jail for more than four years. He is the only earning member of the family. Elderly parents are wives and children. It was requested that these things be considered while sentencing the accused.
However, citing the provisions of the Poxo Act, the court sentenced the accused to a 20 -year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000, otherwise he would have to stay in additional jail for three months. The time spent by the accused in jail will be added to the punishment.
