According to the review of “The Old Guard 2”, this sequel has proved to be quite weak compared to the first film. While the first film, in which the exploits of the immortal soldiers were shown, was very much liked, this sequel has not met the expectations. Charlize Theron has once again brought the character of Andy alive, but a lot of things have been tried in the film.
The story of the film is mainly focused on Andy’s old partner Quinn (Veronica Ngô), which has come out to take revenge after 500 years of torture. However, Uma Thurman has been introduced as a new immortal character ‘Discard’ to tangle the story. Charlize Theron and Uma Therman’s face-to-face was going to be the main attraction of the film, but it could not become so strong. Uma Therman’s character seems incomplete and her acting is also very common. Action scenes are fine, but not stylish or memorable like the first film. Director Victoria Mahoney could not bring a special style like Gina Prince-Bythwood. More use of size-cams in the film affects action scenes.
The rest of the characters of the previous film like Neel (Kiki Layne) and James Kopali have not been able to do much this time and it seems that they are just walking together in the story. The character ‘Booker’ of Matthias Schoenaerts is a bit better, which has to go through some internal conflicts after the last film deception.
Charlize Theron’s performance is also strong this time and she keeps the film to a great extent. She shows her character’s pain, courage and action well. But the most disappointing aspect of the film is its end, which ends at a clifahanger. After a long wait of 5 years, such an incomplete end disappoints the audience more. It seems that due to the problems in production, the film could not complete its end properly. Overall, “The Old Guard 2” definitely shows action, but it is not fun and tightness like the first film.
