NEW NHAI RULE: Passing for free after stopping for more than 10 seconds on toll plazas, NHAI's big decision

New nhai rule: The drivers are going to get a big relief soon from the long queues on the toll plaza. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented a new and important rule, under which if a vehicle has to wait more than 10 seconds at the toll booth, it will be allowed to overtake without paying the fee. This step has been taken with the aim of increasing efficiency in toll collection and ensuring uninterrupted travel for drivers.

Why was this decision taken?
This decision of NHAI mainly focuses on reducing congestion and traffic jams on toll plazas. Despite applying Fastag technology on a large scale, vehicles still have to wait over 10 seconds at many toll booths, causing fuel wastage, pollution and procurement of passengers. This new rule will increase the pressure on operators to improve the scanning and lane management of the fastag, making the flow of vehicles constantly.

How will the new rule work?
According to this new rule, if a vehicle reaches the toll booth and the queue of vehicles is so long that it has to wait for more than 10 seconds, then it can pass without paying the toll. However, this facility will be available only when there is no fastag failure, scanner malfunction or other technical problem on the toll plaza that is slowing down the process. Toll booth operators must ensure that they strictly follow the new guidelines and this rule of free passing is not misused.

Fastag role
The government had made the Fastag system mandatory to ensure electronic toll collection without stopping at toll plazas. The goal of this system is to achieve 100% electronic tolls so that the toll collection can be completely digital and obstructless. This latest step of NHAI is another effort in the same direction to ensure that the full capacity of Fastag is used and the drivers do not have any kind of trouble.

This new rule will make the journey more efficient and comfortable on India’s highways, which will also reduce fuel and decrease in carbon emissions. This will liberate the drivers from unnecessary waiting and ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the national highways.
