News India Live, Digital Desk: UP Panchayat Elections: The politics of Uttar Pradesh has always been interesting, and now Samajwadi Party has made such a move regarding Panchayat Elections, which has surprised everyone. It is reported that Samajwadi Party will not field candidates on its direct symbol in the upcoming Panchayat elections. After this decision, the question is arising that what is this ‘indirect strategy’ of SP and will it benefit them?
This step may spark a new debate within the party and in political circles. Generally, big political parties demonstrate their strength in Panchayat elections by fielding their candidates directly on their party symbol. But this time SP has distanced itself from it.
Then what is SP’s strategy?
Political analysts believe that SP can adopt several strategies behind this:
- Support for more candidates: By contesting directly on the election symbol the number of seats gets limited. By indirectly supporting, the party can support more and more candidates, even if they are independent. This will increase the influence of the party at the grassroots level.
- Less fear of defeat: If the party does not directly field a candidate on its symbol, then in case of defeat the party will not have to take direct responsibility. This will also save their image.
- Opportunities for local leaders: This strategy will give influential local level leaders an opportunity to contest elections independently, which will make them feel empowered and keep working for the party.
- Avoidance of conflict and alliance: Alliances and factionalism are common at the local level in Panchayat elections. By contesting elections directly, the party may get into trouble. With indirect support they can avoid these factionalism.
How much benefit SP will get from this strategy will be known only in the coming time, but it is certain that this decision has definitely heated up the political atmosphere of Uttar Pradesh. This shows how deeply political parties prepare their strategies even at the grassroots level.
