New Delhi. : Questions are often raised about the lower berth in the railway. Especially for women, senior citizens and disabled travelers. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has recently made a big statement on this issue. The Railway Minister said that efforts are being made to provide lower berth facility to women, senior citizens and disabled passengers on priority basis. He informed that the Railways is continuously working in this direction so that these passengers do not have to face any inconvenience during the journey.
The minister also clarified that the number of lower berths is limited, so it is not possible to provide this facility to all. But the Railways is trying to ensure that priority should be given to the passengers who need the most. It has become clear from this statement of the Railway Minister that the Railways is taking full care of the convenience of women, senior citizens and disabled travelers and is making every effort to make their journey comfortable.
Lower berth reserved in trains
Every coach in the Indian railway system has a certain number of lower berths. For example, in sleeper class, each coach has 6 to 7 lower berths. Whereas in 3 Tier AC (3AC), every coach has 4 to 5 lower berths. Whereas in 2 Tier AC (2AC), each coach has 3 to 4 lower berths.
Indian Railways always gives priority to disabled travelers. 2 lower berths are reserved in sleeper class. 4 lower berths in 3AC and 3E coaches, second seating or 4 seats in chair car are reserved for disabled passengers. This facility is also available in premium trains like all mail, express, capital and Shatabdi. Whether you choose any train, whether you have a discounted ticket or not, this facility is always available.
What will happen if the lower berth remains empty?
If the lower berth is emptied during the journey, it is given to senior citizens, disabled individuals and pregnant women on priority, which were first allocated the middle or upper berth.
