OPD will remain closed in government hospitals including IGMC Shimla even today | News India

Shimla, 20 August (HS). Doctors in the capital Shimla are furious against the rape and brutal murder of a female PG doctor in Kolkata. Resident Doctors' Association Semdikot has decided to keep the OPD closed on Tuesday as well. This will affect health services in IGMC, Chamiyana, Kamla Nehru Hospital and Deen Dayal Hospital. The association will march on foot from IGMC to the Secretariat to get justice for the victim and to fulfill their demands. After this, a memorandum will be submitted to the Chief Minister.

Due to the strike of resident doctors, the health service in the hospitals has been affected for the last three days and patients are facing difficulties. It is not possible to run OPD due to the shortage of senior doctors. Apart from OPD being closed in IGMC on Tuesday, there will be no operations either. In such a situation, if a patient comes to the hospital for treatment on a routine basis, he will have to return. Now only emergency patients will be treated in the hospital. Hundreds of patients come to IGMC for treatment every day, while many operations are done. The problems of the patients have increased further due to the strike.

Dr Balbir Singh Verma, President of State Association of Medical and Dental College Teachers (Semdikot) of IGMC and Dental College, said that in protest against the Kolkata incident, OPD will remain closed on Tuesday except for emergency services and operation theatres will also not be functional. He said that resident doctors and MBBS students will take out a peaceful march from IGMC to the Secretariat and submit their memorandum of demands to the government.
