News India Live, Digital Desk: Pakistan, which is trying to establish itself as a big player on the stage of international diplomacy, has suffered a severe blow. Pakistan’s dream of reducing the decades-long conflict between Iran and America and making a big deal has been shattered. After lengthy discussions and failed behind-the-scenes efforts, Islamabad has now publicly admitted that it has been completely unable to become a ‘successful mediator’ between the two countries. After this failure, questions are now being raised on Pakistan’s ability to mediate at the global level.

Why did Pakistan’s ‘Peace Mission’ fail?

In fact, Pakistan hoped that it would act as a bridge between its neighbor Iran and its old ally America. But after the failure of the talks, Pakistani officials have indicated that the gap of distrust between the two countries is so deep that it is not possible to bridge it at present. Experts believe that due to Pakistan’s own economic crisis and its declining credibility at the international level, both Washington and Tehran did not take Islamabad seriously. Pakistan admitted that it could not find a middle path between America’s tough conditions and Iran’s steadfast stance.

Tehran and Washington did not pay attention

According to sources, Pakistan’s mediation efforts suffered a major setback when America refused to make any compromise on its nuclear policy during the talks. On the other hand, Iran made it clear that it will not move forward on any deal until the stringent sanctions imposed on it are not removed. Expressing its helplessness, Pakistan said that it tried its best to bring both the parties to the table, but the global circumstances and bilateral tensions thwarted its efforts.

Pakistan’s global reputation takes a big blow

After the failure of these talks, now Shahbaz Sharif government is on the back foot. Pakistan’s opposition parties and diplomacy experts are considering this as a major defeat for the country’s foreign policy. Islamabad has issued this statement at a time when it itself is struggling with international debt and internal instability. Now the question is arising whether Pakistan will distance itself from the affairs of the Middle East after this failure or will it look for a new path? At present, the issue of Iran-America deal seems to be on the back burner.
