In a devastating security setback in northwestern Pakistan, a powerful explosion struck a security checkpoint in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, killing at least 12 people and injuring approximately 30 others. The attack targeted the Aman Mela checkpost in the Darazinda subdivision along the vital DI Khan-Quetta transit corridor, situated close to the inter-provincial border separating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The banned militant outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed direct responsibility for the assault, marking another bloody escalation in the group’s ongoing campaign against state security infrastructure.

According to preliminary assessments by local law enforcement and disaster relief agencies, an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the roadside checkpoint before detonating with immense destructive force. The intensity of the blast demolished nearby boundary walls and temporary shelter structures, trapping several individuals beneath concrete rubble. Local police officials confirmed that the casualties include security personnel, customs officers on transit inspection duty, and civilian passersby. Among the deceased are eight men, two women, and a child, reflecting the indiscriminate impact of the detonation near the busy thoroughfare.
Massive Rescue Mobilization and Hospital Emergencies
Following the detonation, emergency response units from Rescue 1122 rushed from Darazinda and Dera Ismail Khan city to initiate search and clearance operations.
