You must have heard the name, daughter of former Chief Minister of Gujarat and currently Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel. The way Anar has been reaching out among the people for some time now and the series of meetings she has started, has increased the murmur in the political circles of the state whether there is going to be a big blast in the 2027 assembly elections?
Social work or preparing electoral ground?
Although Anar Patel has a big business and social work of his own, now his activism is being seen as ‘social service’ as well as preparing a ‘political pitch’. There is no need to tell how big Anandiben Patel’s reputation is in Gujarat, especially in the Patidar community. In such a situation, her daughter coming forward indicates that Anandiben is now preparing to hand over her legacy to a safe and strong hand.
Will this be a ‘big gamble’ for BJP?
The election of 2027 is as important for BJP as the 2014 Lok Sabha elections were. Current Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel is working as a clean face, but there are many ‘power centres’ within the party. If Anar Patel’s entry happens directly or indirectly, it can become a big weapon to further organize the Patel vote bank.
It is often said that Anandiben has been one of the most trusted people of the Modi-Shah duo. If Anar Patel is promoted, it will be assumed that this step is being taken only with the consent of the high command.
What do the people of Gujarat think?
From the streets of Ahmedabad to the Chaupals of villages, memories of the old dominance that used to be there during Anandiben’s era are once again being refreshed in the Patidar society. Anar Patel is not known to be harsh like her mother but has an easy-going nature, which can make her mark among the youth and women.
The real challenge of 2027
Seeing the way the opposition is laying siege, it has become necessary for the BJP to come up with a new ‘equation’. Anar’s return under Anandiben’s wing could not only unite the old loyalists but also quell the dissident voices within the party.
This is just the beginning. It will be interesting to see as 2027 approaches, what moves these chess pieces will make to start the game of checkmate.
