Mumbai – To get relief from unbearable heat, where people are resorting to air conditioners, fans or coolers, the practice of applying sandalwood to God has started to relieve heat.
The sandalwood journey has started to apply sandalwood on the idols in all ISKCON temples, including Shri Radha Gopinath Temple at Chowpatty, so that God can get coldness in the scorching heat and humidity of Vaishakh. This Chandan Yatra will start from Tritiya of Shukla Paksha and run for 20 days.
Devotees and volunteers collect sandalwood several days in advance for the 20 -day Chandan Yatra. And then it is placed on the idol of God. After applying the entire body, only divine eyes appear. In the summer season, a procession of idols is also taken out as a celebration and water is also performed in lakes or rivers by placing the idols in boats.
