In an interview on YouTube channel of American Podcaster and Computer Scientist Lex Freedman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his views on several important issues. In this conversation, he answered questions related to RSS, Hindu Rashtra, Mahatma Gandhi, Gujarat riots, and his personal life. At the same time, he also expressed his opinion on India’s relations with the US and China.

PM Modi’s opinion on global organizations

PM Modi said that global organizations like United Nations are now becoming irrelevant, as they are failing to fulfill their basic responsibilities. He stressed that coordination and cooperation is very important for global development, but the current international institutions have failed.

Speaking on the Middle East crisis, PM Modi said that institutions like United Nations are not able to solve the struggles. He also said that these institutions need improvement, as they are limited to formalities only instead of finding solutions.

Congress targeted PM Modi’s statement

The Congress has reacted strongly to this statement of Prime Minister Modi. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that PM Modi is all asking to make Donald Trump happy. He said taunting,
“Modi is repeatedly speaking the language of his friend Trump. Donald Trump is also trying to describe global institutions as irrelevant. ”

Ramesh further said,
“Are WHO and WTO not beneficial for India? Is the Paris Agreement on Climate Change not necessary for India? Even though there are shortcomings in these organizations, they have provided a platform to Indian peacekeepers. There is a need for improvement, but Modi and Trump cannot criticize global organizations in this way. ”

PM Modi praised Trump

In the interview, Prime Minister Modi described Donald Trump as his friend and said that both keep the national interest paramount. He described Trump as a fearless leader and said that he is extremely clear in taking decisions.

PM Modi also said that Trump’s enthusiasm did not diminish despite the attack during the election campaign. He claimed that in the second term, Trump would come with more preparation than before.

Congress’s sarcasm – “Minimum self -realization, maximum good governance”

In the interview, Modi also talked about his identity. Taking a sarcasm on this, Jairam Ramesh said,
“A year ago he described himself as ‘non-biological’, now he is believing in the principle of ‘1+1’: one Modi and the other divine.”

He further said that when the country is struggling with economic challenges, the neighboring countries are disturbed and the global situation is unstable, then the Prime Minister should focus on effective governance instead of personal glory. Ramesh said,
“Minimum self -realization, maximum good governance should be priority.”
