News India Live, Digital Desk: The Center has approved a package of Rs 4224.23 crore for 316 road projects in Jammu and Kashmir under the PMGSY-IV, which is the biggest package for the Union Territory since the start of the National major Rural Road Development Program.
PMGSY-IV Program Under, as much as 250 people will get road connectivity through a total length of 1781.33 km. Most of 316 road projects under PMGSY-IV in Jammu and Kashmir will benefit Jammu division, as this division is still a poorly connected compared to the Kashmir division.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the approved 1781 km road length will promote rural road connectivity and a new era of prosperity will begin in far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Lieutenant Governor said on X, “I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan who has approved 316 road projects at an estimated cost of Rs 4224 crore under the Batch-I of PMGSY-IV to provide connectivity to 390 eligible settlements.”
He added, “Jammu and Kashmir is the first in all those states/union territories that have been approved under PMGSY-IV. It is the largest package ever approved for Jammu and Kashmir under PMGSY. The length of the 1781 km road will promote rural road connectivity and will start a new era of prosperity in remote areas.”
Most of the projects sanctioned under PMGSY-III were related to upgradation of roads, while Rs 377.91 crore was sanctioned for 66 small and medium bridges, but PMGSY-IV has no bridge project, and the entire amount would have to be used for road length projects.
1952.42 crore rupees were used for road connectivity under PMGSY-III, including upgradation of existing roads, while the sanctioned amount under PMGSY-IV is to build new roads, not for upgradation of existing roads.
Out of a total of Rs 4,224.23 crore sanctioned under PMGSY-IV for Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir government will have to bear its share of Rs 422.43 crore, while the Union Ministry of Rural Development will have to bear its share of Rs 3,801.80 crore.
