News India Live, Digital Desk: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has expressed deep concern over air pollution reaching dangerous levels in Delhi. Terming the air quality of the capital as “truly shocking”, he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to pay immediate attention to this serious crisis.

Priyanka Gandhi, who returned to Delhi from a tour of Wayanad and Bihar, expressed her grief on social media and said that she was shocked to see a thick gray blanket of pollution over Delhi. Appealing to rise above politics and come together on this issue, he wrote, “Now is the time for all of us to put aside our political compulsions and do something about this.” Priyanka also made it clear that she will extend full support to every step taken to deal with this terrible situation.

“People of Delhi are forced to suffer this poison every year”

Dear”_blank” rel=”noopener”>Priyanka Gandhi also emphasized that this is not a one year problem. He said, “Year after year, the citizens of Delhi are forced to endure this toxic environment without any respite.” He called for immediate action to clean up the “dirty smog”, particularly citing its adverse health effects on children, the elderly and those suffering from respiratory diseases.

Delhi’s air reaches ‘severe’ category from ‘very bad’

This reaction of Priyanka Gandhi has come at a time when the air quality of Delhi is really at a dangerous level. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s average air quality index (AQI) on Sunday was 386, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category. The matter of concern is that just a day earlier, on Saturday, it was 303.

Many parts of the city have practically become gas chambers. In areas like Wazirpur, AQI reached ‘severe’ level of 439. In many other areas like Ashok Vihar and Jahangirpuri, the air was also recorded in ‘severe’ category. Experts believe that due to slow wind speed, pollutant particles have accumulated at one place, due to which the situation has worsened. The Meteorological Department has also warned that the air will remain in ‘very bad’ category for the next few days.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has rejected the opposition’s allegations that the government is manipulating pollution data. He has claimed that his government is sincerely working to deal with this problem. However, amidst political maneuvering, the people of Delhi are forced to take poison with every breath.
