New Delhi, 30 September (Hindustan Times). 76 RR of Indian Police Service A group of probationers officers (2023 batch) called on President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, President Draupadi Murmu said that without maintaining law and order, ensuring justice and protecting the rights of citizens, progress becomes a meaningless word. He advised the probationers officers of the Indian Police Service to remember that the 'S' in 'IPS' stands for service.
The President said that the Indian Police Service has its own special importance among various all India services. Law and order is not only the cornerstone of governance but it is also the basis of the modern state. In simple words one can also say that in many places and in many situations, they will be the face of the State to fellow citizens and they will be their first contact with the administrative machinery of the State.
The President said that as India aims to scale new heights in the coming years, the role of IPS officers becomes even more important. Economic development and social development are possible only when the rule of law is maintained. Without maintaining law and order, ensuring justice and protecting the rights of citizens, progress becomes a meaningless word.
The President expressed happiness over the sharp increase in the number of women IPS officers in recent years. He said their increasing numbers could improve the overall character of policing, improve police-community relations and would also prove beneficial for the nation.
The President said that maintenance of law and order, prevention and detection of crime and other aspects of policing have benefited from advances in technology. However, the flip side of this is that criminals and terrorists are also taking the help of technology. When cyber crimes and cyber wars are on the rise across the world, IPS officers will be expected to be tech savvy and stay one step ahead of the criminals.
The President said that the huge responsibilities placed on the shoulders of IPS officers can sometimes be very stressful. Therefore, they should never ignore their mental health. He asked them to make yoga, pranayam and relaxation techniques a part of their daily routine. He also advised them to remember that the 'S' in 'IPS' stands for service. He said that his biggest slogan is to serve the country and its citizens.
