This step reflects the government’s efforts to cooperate and create consensus in the parliamentary process.
The NDA on Saturday declared Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the Vice Presidential election. CP Radhakrishnan is a grassroots leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party coming from Tamil Nadu, who has more than 40 years of experience in public life. After the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, his name was approved. The tenure of the current Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar ends in August 2025.
Senior ministers, including Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde, also met the Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut and Bharat Rashtriya Samiti (BRS) representative Vinod Kumar. During this, he also requested support for the candidate for the Vice President. Senior government leaders reach the opposition, showing that they are keen to gain extensive support for the constitutional post. Such talks reflect the importance of consent and parliamentary dignity in Indian politics.
The election of the post of Vice President is important as the Vice President is also the ex -officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, which makes his role very important in the proceedings of the upper house of Parliament. In such a situation, this election is held in an atmosphere of consent for a democratic process.
