Every year 24 Ekadashi fasts come. Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month is called Varuthini Ekadashi. Ekadashi of this month is falling on 24 April. It is believed that sins are destroyed by fasting on this day and listening and reading the story.

The fast of Varuthini Ekadashi will be observed on April 24, Thursday. This date will start on April 23, Wednesday at 4.43 pm and will end on Thursday, April 24 at 2.32 pm.

Varuthini Ekadashi Katha

The importance of Varuthini Ekadashi is described in the Puranas. Once upon a time, King Mandhata ruled on the banks of the Narmada River. He was a righteous king. He used to serve his subjects and was interested in worship, religion. One day he went to the forest and started doing penance there. He remained immersed in meditation for a long time. One day a bear came there and attacked King Mandhata.

During this attack, the bear grabbed the leg of King Mandhata and started dragging them. He did not give any answer and remained absorbed in the attention of God. He remembered his Lord Shri Hari and prayed to protect his life. Meanwhile, the bear took them further in the forest. Then Lord Vishnu appeared. He killed the bear and saved the life of King Mandhata. King Mandhata’s leg was damaged in the bear attack. He found this thing very bad.

Then Lord Vishnu told King Mandhata that this is the result of your previous birth deeds. You shouldn’t worry. When Ekadashi came in the Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month, worship Lord Varaha in Mathura on that day. The result of that fast and worship will be a new body.

The king was very happy to hear this thing of Shri Hari. On receiving the command of God, he reached Mathura on Vaishakh Krishna Ekadashi i.e. Varuthini Ekadashi. He observed the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi and worshiped Lord Varaha with the law. After the fast, the fast was completed by performing rituals. He got a new body from the virtue of this fast. He returned to his kingdom and started living a happy life. When he died, he went to heaven. He attained salvation.

Similarly, anyone who observes Varuthini Ekadashi fast as per rules and hears the fasting story of Varuthini Ekadashi, he gets the grace of Lord Hari. His sins are destroyed and he attains salvation. He becomes fearless.
