Kolkata, September 10 (HS). A special court in Kolkata on Tuesday rejected the CBI's plea seeking production of former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh in virtual mode for the hearing.

The current CBI custody of Sandeep Ghosh is ending today. For security reasons, the CBI had appealed to the special court to produce him in virtual mode as public anger against Sandeep Ghosh is increasing after the rape and murder of the junior doctor.

According to sources, the CBI requested both verbally and in writing for permission to appear virtually but the special court rejected it and said they will have to be produced physically in the court.

Ghosh is currently in CBI custody in connection with the financial irregularities at R.G. Kar Medical College. Protesting representatives of the medical sector in the state claim that the junior doctor had to suffer this tragic end because she had come to know about the corruption in the hospital.

As per the court order, three other persons arrested in the case, Afsar Ali, Suman Hazra and Biplab Sinha, should also be produced physically. Ali is Ghosh's personal bodyguard, while Sinha and Hazra are vendors who supplied medical equipment to the RG Kar Hospital when Ghosh was the principal.

It is noteworthy that when Ghosh was first produced in the court on September 3, the CBI officials had to face a lot of difficulties in escorting him inside the court room, as hundreds of people were protesting outside the court premises. Ghosh was also slapped by a protester while he was being brought out of the court.

Earlier on September 6, the special court had allowed state correctional services officials to produce civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy, arrested in the rape and murder case, in virtual mode.
