Russia and Iran have reached an agreement to build a small nuclear power plant in Iran. The agreement was signed in Moscow on Wednesday, where the Russian nuclear agency Rosatom’s chief Alexi Likhev and Iran’s nuclear chief Mohammad Islamic spoke. Rosatom has described the project as strategic.
Iran’s Vice President Mohammad Islami said that Iran has planned 20 GW of nuclear power by 2040. For this, eight new atomic plants will be built, four of which will be installed in Southern Province Bushahar. This will provide relief to Iran from lack of electricity in summer and maximum demand for electricity.
Iran is currently working only one reactor
Currently, Iran has only one current atomic reactor, located in the southern city of Bushahar. It was built by Russia and its capacity is 1 GW. Russia and Iran have strong relations. Russia has criticized the attacks on Iranian nuclear installations by the US and Israel. On 13 June, Israel launched air strikes on Iranian nuclear installations and military bases.
More than 1,000 people, including top Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists, were killed in this attack. Iran retaliated with missiles and drone attacks, killing dozens of Israeli. The US also bombed three Iran’s nuclear installations. Iran claims that its nuclear program is completely peaceful.
Uranium reserves pressed under debris: Iran
On 11 September, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi admitted that Iran’s high-quality uranium reserves were buried in the rubble after Israeli and US attacks. Araghchi’s statement came at a time when the United Nations Atomic Monitoring Agency has said that Iran’s promotion uranium reserves are a matter of serious concern. The agency said that he has no information about Iran’s activities since the attack on its atomic installations in June.
