8th Pay Commission New Update: Salary hike is likely to postpone by 2027 by 2027

The Central Government approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission in January 2023, hoping to increase new salary and pension from central employees and pensioners from January 2026. But according to the latest reports, this increase may be postponed by January 2027, causing concern between employees and pensioners.

What will happen if there is a delay in the implementation of Pay Commission?

If there is a delay in the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, the employees and pensioners will be entitled to arrears whenever the new commission is implemented. The tenure of the Commission will start officially from January 2026, but the amendment in salary and pension will not be implemented until the beginning of 2027.

How much can the fitment factor be?

Although no official announcement has been made on the fitment factor so far, it is believed that the fitment factor can range from 1.92 to 2.86. National Council-JCM Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra has suggested that at least 2.57 fitment factor should be implemented for adequate increase in salaries of employees.

What will be the minimum wage from the fitment factor?

  • If the fitment factor is 1.92, the minimum wage will increase from 18,000 to Rs 34,560.
  • The minimum wage can increase to Rs 46,260 if there is a 2.57 fitment factor.
  • The minimum wage will increase to Rs 51,480 on the implementation of 2.86 fitment factor.

When will the Commission be formed?

According to media reports, the government can set up a panel of the 8th Pay Commission only next month. The names of the chairman and two members of this panel will be announced. This panel will give the government related suggestions, which will probably be implemented by 2026 or 2027.
