Tension Between Iran and Saudi A

Tehran : Relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran have been in a critical condition for some time. But a recent incident has created a possibility of increasing tension in relations between the two countries once again. Recently, an Iranian citizen was arrested during the Haj pilgrimage. Due to this, political and religious differences have become weak again. In this backdrop, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called him a brother to improve relations with Saudi Arabia.

Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X, “Recent incidents are going through a critical phase with Saudi Arabia. Religious and political differences have also arisen. I am also in touch with my colleagues in the Haj organization to ensure that Irani citizens do not obstruct the sending of Haj pilgrimage.”

Saudi Arabia is the brother of Iran

In addition, External Affairs Minister Araghchi, while speaking about Iran-Saudi relations, said that the ties are currently tense. But Saudi Arabia has a special place in Iran’s foreign policy. Iran will maintain its brotherhood relations. There will be no obstruction of any kind.

Araghati’s statement has put a stop to speculation of deteriorating relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. But Saudi Arabia has not yet commented on this recent incident.

Air service for Iranian Haj pilgrims

After 2015, Saudi Arabia has also resumed flight services to the Iranian Haj pilgrims. On May 17, Saudi Arabia’s Flynas Airlines conducted its first flight for Iranian pilgrims from Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran. This gave 35,000 Iranian pilgrims an opportunity to perform Haj.

Due to Saudi-Irani hostility

Saudi Arabia and Iran were staunch enemies in the Middle East. Religious differences had arisen in both countries. Iran is a country of Shia Muslims, while Saudi Arabia is a country of Sunni Muslims. However, 139 Iranian pilgrims died during the Haj pilgrimage in 2015. This caused tension in both countries. It was only in 2016 that Saudi Arabia hanged the Shia religious leader al-Nimr. This further increased tension between the two countries.
