There is a very big news – from April 1, 2026, cash transactions will be completely stopped at the toll plazas built on all the national highways of the country. Now there will be only two ways to pay toll – FASTag or UPI (like Paytm, Google Pay etc.).

Why was this decision taken and what will be the benefit to you?

The objective of the government is very clear:

• Now there will be no jam: When there is no use of cash, vehicles will not stop at toll. This will end the terrible traffic jam at toll.
• Your time and petrol will be saved: If the car does not stop, then your valuable time will also be saved and the petrol and diesel that is wasted in repeatedly stopping and moving the car will also be saved.
• Everything will be clean: When all the money will come and go digitally, there will be complete transparency in the accounts of toll collection, and there will be no scope for any irregularities.

What will happen if FASTag is not done?

Now you must be wondering what will happen if someone’s car does not have FASTag or the balance in it is exhausted?

Look, after April 1, 2026, there will be no cash line at toll. You may be given the option to pay through UPI, but also remember that the rule of charging double toll tax from vehicles without FASTag is still applicable. So traveling without FASTag can be very heavy on your pocket.

The further preparations of the government are even more amazing!

This is just the beginning. The government is working on introducing such a technology in the future, which is called ‘Multi-Lane Free Flow’. Imagine, you are driving on the highway and there is no toll gate or barrier! Your vehicle will keep moving and the cameras installed above will scan your number plate and automatically deduct the toll from your bank account. Stopping cash is the first step towards this big change.

So our advice is that if FASTag is not yet installed in your vehicle, then get it installed in time and always maintain some balance in it, so that your journey is comfortable and complete without any hindrance.
