Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party has focused on states where the opposition is in a strong position. Strengthening the alliance in Assam, finding its ground in Kerala and demolishing Mamata Banerjee’s fort in West Bengal are the three biggest goals of BJP. 1. Assam: ‘Power sharing’ formula with allies
In Assam, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP has prepared a new formula for seat-sharing.
Priority to alliance: BJP is adopting the strategy of taking its allies (AGP and UPPL) along so that polarization of opposition votes can be prevented.
Issues: By using infiltration, delimitation as a shield and development works, BJP wants to further strengthen its hold on power in Assam.
2. Kerala: Special focus on 100 seats
BJP has been a ‘marginal player’ in Kerala till now, but the party has set an unprecedented target for 2026.
Target of 100 seats: The party has identified 100 out of 140 assembly seats in the state where the support of the Christian community and youth can be gained.
Minority Outreach: Through ‘Sneh Yatra’ and other programmes, BJP is trying to make inroads among Christians and middle class Muslims in Kerala.
3. West Bengal: Preparation for ‘clean sweep’
The conflict between BJP and TMC in Bengal is well known. The party has made up its mind to fight ‘aar-paar’ for the 2026 assembly elections.
Changes at the grassroots level: Amit Shah and JP Nadda themselves are monitoring the organizational structure of Bengal.
Issues: By making incidents like Sandeshkhali, allegations of corruption and law and order issues, BJP is planning to corner the Mamata government.
Matua and Rajbanshi votes: The party is going to run a special campaign to maintain its dominance in North Bengal and Matua dominated areas.
