Severe danger to your eyesight!

Steroids are commonly used to treat inflammation, asthma, allergies, arthritis and autoimmune diseases, but their wrong and prolonged use can be fatal to your eyesight. AIIMS experts warned that excessive and uncontrolled use of steroids in the form of tablets, injections, creams, sprays and eye drops can cause severe damage to your eyes.

How do steroids harm your eyes?

Long -term use (more than 6 weeks) – Using persistent steroids can increase eye pressure, causing damage to glaucoma and optic nerve.
Hidden danger-No symptoms appear in the early stage of steroid-inspired glaucoma. As long as vision loss is detected, the damage can be irreversible.
General sources – Many cough inhalers, nose sprays and skin cream contain steroids, which can affect the optic nerve.
Danger of cataract – Additional cortisol (stress hormone) can increase the risk of cataract by increasing eye pressure.

Precautions to protect your eyesight

Do not use steroids for a long time without doctor’s advice.
If you are taking steroids, get the eyes regularly checked.
Reduce stress to control eye pressure.
Overgance can be prevented by timely investigation.
