Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has taken refuge in India. The Indian government had recently extended his visa. Amidst all this, Congress leader and former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar said that Sheikh Hasina should be allowed to stay in India as long as she wants. Aiyar expressed happiness that India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry had visited Dhaka last month and held discussions with officials there.
He said that talks should continue between the two countries and the Indian government should also establish contact with the interim government of Bangladesh at the ministerial level and continue the talks. Regarding the demand for Sheikh Hasina’s extradition, he said, “I hope that we all will not disagree that Sheikh Hasina has done a lot of good for us.” I am happy that he has been granted asylum. I think we should keep them as guests as long as they want. Then why not his entire life? It is worth noting here that Sheikh Hasina came to India on August 5 and has been living in India since then. He came to India after the widespread student movement in Bangladesh.
