Prayagraj, 19 August (HS). According to Vedic tradition, bathing with Panchgavya, sacred thread worship and study of Vedas begins. Sages and saints are worshipped and saluted. Gurus tie a protective thread to their disciples and start their study of Vedas. This is the mythological significance and meaning of Rakshabandhan. Shravani Upkarma is the process of purifying one's mind and body.
Vedic Acharya Khemraj, who conducted the rituals on Monday, said this while addressing the students explaining the importance of Shravani Utsarg. On Monday, Shravani Utsarg and Upkarma were conducted with Vedic mantras and rituals at Shivganga Ashram Jhunsi, Prayagraj center of Govardhan Math Puri Odisha Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati.
On this occasion, the Veda-reading students and people associated with the ashram on the banks of the Ganga took a bath with Panchgavya and performed rituals like evening tarpan etc. On this day, the old Yagyopaveet (Janeu) is discarded and a new one is worn which is consecrated with Vedic mantras. The Acharya said that this date has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. In modern times, these traditions are disappearing, about which the followers of Sanatan Dharma should know.
After the worship was done as per rituals, a feast was also organized. Hundreds of devotees took the prasad in it. On this occasion, Acharya Khemraj, Pratap Dubey, Ajay Pandey, Surendra Pandey, Vivek Mishra, Deepak Shukla, BP Singh, KN Pandey, Acharya Ramanuj, Ankur, RK Pandey, Manoj Tripathi, Piyush, Vasu, etc., a large number of devotees were present.
