Former Chief Minister N. The voice of Biren Singh is heard and he is provoking people for violence. While the central government said, “The report is ready and it will soon be handed over to the court in a sealed envelope.”

A bench headed by CJI Sanjeev Khanna accepted the arguments of the lawyers submitted by the central and state governments and adjourned the hearing till 5 May. In a petition filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Cookie Human Rights Organization (Kohur), it was alleged that ‘in the viral audio clip, former Chief Minister N.K. Biren Singh is the voice. In view of the growing rebellion and dissatisfaction in the party, N. Biren Singh resigned as Chief Minister in February last year.
Earlier, the Supreme Court sought a report from CFSL in a sealed envelope on the veracity of the leaked audio clip alleging involvement of Biren Singh in the sexual violence that started in May 2023. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for Kohur, demanded an SIT inquiry under the supervision of the court of Biren Singh’s alleged role.
‘This is Biren Singh’s voice up to 93 percent’
Advocate Bhushan said, ‘A lab has confirmed that it is Biren Singh’s 93 percent voice and is much more reliable than the FSL report. In fact, on 8 November last year, a bench headed by former CJI DY Chandrachud instructed Kohur to introduce materials to prove the authenticity of the leaked audio clip.
Bhushan said, “He will also file a copy of the CD in the format.” The recorded conversation reveals prima facie the connivance and involvement of the state machinery in the violence against the cookie community. The disturbing thing in the clip is that Biren Singh can be heard inciting violence and defending the attackers.
Violence in Manipur for the last 2 years
Manipur has been facing sexual struggle for the last two years. The struggle, which started in May 2023, has killed more than 250 people and thousands of people have been displaced. This tension is mainly among the Maetai community living in the Imphal Valley and the Cookie community living in the surrounding hills. Sexual violence, which started after unity march to demand the status of Scheduled Tribes to the majority Maitai community last year, continues even today.
