News India Live, Digital Desk: Kapil Sharma Controversy: Comedy King Kapil Sharma’s new show “The Great Indian Kapil Show” has been engulfed in controversies as soon as it started. This time the controversy has stood up with the name of the city of Mumbai, not about any joke or character. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has given a strong warning to Kapil Sharma to stop using the word “Bombay” for the city in his show and instead as “Mumbai”.
The matter came to light when MNS Chitrapat Sena President Amay Khopkar objected to this through a post on his social media account ‘X’. He wrote clearly, “Kapil Sharma, we have been watching your show for many years, but if you once again use the word ‘Bombay’ instead of ‘Mumbai’, then we have to come on the set of your show and take action.”
Khopkar further said that the country and the world know that the official name of the city is “Mumbai”, then why is “Bombay” being intentionally spoken again and again? He said in a warning tone, “This is the last warning.”
Let me tell you that this is not the first time that MNS has taken such a tough stand on the name of Mumbai. The party has always been very sensitive to the name “Mumbai” and sees it by connecting it to Marathi identity. The MNS believes that the name of the city is reminiscent of the “Bombay” colonial period and now that its name has become officially “Mumbai”, everyone should use the same name.
At the moment, there is no official response from Kapil Sharma or his show team on this whole matter. But after this MNS warning, it will be interesting to see if Kapil Sharma uses the word “Mumbai” instead of “Bombay” in the upcoming episodes. This small word has launched a new debate in the entertainment world.
