Kidney Health: According to a report by the National Kidney Foundation of America, kidney diseases are increasing rapidly these days. Diabetes and high blood pressure are its two main causes. However, if you keep these diseases under control, kidney disease can be prevented or slowed down to a great extent.
What not to eat for kidneys?
Making healthy food choices and controlling your intake of sugar, fat, sodium and salt can help you avoid risk factors for kidney disease. These changes may also strengthen the defenses of your kidneys, giving them important protection against kidney disease. The National Kidney Foundation lists five foods that even healthy people should avoid.
Stay away from soda.
Soda provides no nutrition and is loaded with sugar, whether natural or artificial. Sugar can increase weight. Several studies have linked soda to osteoporosis, kidney disease, metabolic syndrome and dental problems. Diet soda may be low in calories, but may lack nutrition. Apart from this, it also contains ingredients like artificial sweeteners. So skip the soda and drink water. If you have trouble drinking too much plain water, add a slice or two of fresh fruit or lemon juice to enhance the flavor.
Eating processed meat is dangerous.
To keep your kidneys healthy, eliminate processed meats from your diet. Processed meat can also be a source of sodium and nitrates, which increase the risk of cancer. Therefore, consume fresh and low-fat meat products.
Flavored butter is not healthy.
Butter available in the market has high cholesterol, calories and fat content. It often also contains trans fat. Therefore use homemade pure ghee, butter, canola or olive oil.
Avoid mayonnaise.
Adding a spoonful of mayonnaise to sandwiches, burgers and fries enhances their taste, but did you know that just one spoonful of mayonnaise contains 103 calories and a lot of fat? Low-calorie and low-fat mayonnaise is also available, but it is high in sodium and sugar and may contain a variety of additives. Therefore, using fat-free curd instead is a healthier option. It has high protein content and goes very well with salad.
frozen food
Several studies around the world have shown that processed foods increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, while frozen foods like frozen pizza and gravy can be high in sugar, sodium and fat. Although not all frozen foods are the same, it’s best to eat fresh, whole foods whenever possible. Also, when choosing frozen foods, read labels carefully and choose frozen foods that are low or no sodium.
