Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is going through a historic change. Party founder and long-time president Lalu Prasad Yadav is now preparing to formally hand over the command of the party to his son and leader of opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav. This move is being seen as an attempt to bring new direction and energy within the party.
Tejashwi Yadav becomes Lalu Yadav’s successor
In the recent meeting of RJD’s national executive, it was decided that both Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav will be given full powers in all major decisions of the party, even in matters related to name and election symbol. The move formally recognizes Tejashwi Yadav’s leadership and installs him as the party’s successor.
Emphasis on state president and organizational elections
After the national executive meeting, the election process for RJD state president and other organizational roles will now begin. A meeting of the State Executive of Bihar will be held on June 21, in which the selection of the new state president will be discussed. This step has been taken with the aim of promoting new energy and youth leadership in the party organization.
Focus on election preparations
The upcoming political and organizational strategies of RJD were discussed in detail in the meeting. Emphasis was laid on activating the party structure and preparing for the upcoming elections. RJD leader Manoj Jha said on this occasion:
“The bugle has sounded. Our focus is not limited to just the change of power in Bihar, rather we are working towards social and political change on a larger scale.”
Direction of change while sticking to the principles of the party
RJD has made it clear that the main objective of the organizational elections is to increase the participation of party workers and involve the youth in the leadership. Manoj Jha called it a positive step towards modernizing the party and strengthening its roots.

This change is being seen as the end of the long political leadership of Lalu Prasad Yadav and the beginning of a new era of Tejashwi Yadav. Lalu Yadav had decided the direction of the party since the early days of RJD, but now under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav, the party is preparing to strengthen its identity afresh.
