New Delhi: Today is 9th April, that glorious day in Indian military history which we celebrate as ‘CRPF Valor Day’. This day reminds us that wars are not won by weapons alone, but by steely intentions and unwavering patriotism. On this day in 1965, the bravery shown by a handful of brave men of the Central Reserve Police Force had forced the world to sit tight.
That historical battle of Sardar Post: Why is this day celebrated?
Night of 9 April 1965, situated in Rann of Kutch, Gujarat ‘Sardar Post’ But only two companies of CRPF (about 150 soldiers) were deployed. Suddenly the enemy country Pakistan attacked with its entire ’51st Infantry Brigade’ (about 3500 soldiers) and modern tanks.
The enemy was 20 times more numerically, but our soldiers had the resolve of ‘Nation First’. In this fierce battle that lasted for 12 hours, the heroes of CRPF killed 34 soldiers of Pakistan and forced the entire brigade to retreat. In this glorious war, 6 of our soldiers were martyred, in whose memory this day is celebrated every year.
