Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha In Hindi: Morning sargi, whole day’s wait, evening’s sixteen makeup, and then puja thali. In this entire day, if there is one thing that is the ‘soul’ of this fast, it is Karva Mata’s story,

This is not just a story, but a tradition, a belief, without listening to which this difficult fast and worship is never considered complete. When all the women sit together in a circle, rotate their puja plates and a woman narrates this story, then it seems as if the Goddess actually resides in that moment.

So, today let us also listen to the same miraculous and holy story.

Story of Karva Chauth fast

It occurred a long time ago. A moneylender had seven sons and one daughter, whose name was Veeravati. Veeravati was the only and beloved sister of her seven brothers, and everyone loved her more than life.

When Veervati got married, she had come to her maternal home on the first Karva Chauth after marriage. She, along with her sisters-in-law, observed a Nirjala (without drinking water) fast on Karva Chauth for the long life of her husband.

Evening came, puja took place… but the moon was not about to rise. Veervati’s condition became miserable due to hunger and thirst. The brothers could not bear to see this sorrow of their beloved sister. They all knew that their sister would not even drink water until the moon came out.

Then those seven brothers made a plan. They went behind a Peepal tree away from the house and placed a big mirror there and lit a fire. When seen from a distance it seemed as if the moon had come out.

A brother came home and said to his sister, “Look Veeravati, the moon has come out, let’s break the fast by offering Arghya.”

Her innocent sister believed her brothers’ words and broke her fast by offering prayers to the fake moon. However, destiny had other plans. As soon as she put the first bite of food in her mouth, she got the news from her in-laws that her husband was ill.

When she reached her in-laws’ house crying, she saw that her husband was on his deathbed. He realized his mistake that he had broken his fast prematurely after seeing the fake moon.

She began to repent for her mistake and devoted herself to serving her husband day and night. A year later, when the day of Karva Chauth came again, Veeravati observed the fast with full rituals and devotion. Karva Mata was pleased with her true devotion and penance and she gave life to her husband again.

Since then it is believed that this fast should be observed with full faith and correct method.

Importance of this story:
This story teaches us that this fast is not just a matter of staying hungry, but also a test of true devotion, patience and faith. Mother, may all your wishes be fulfilled!
