News India Live, Digital Desk: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat has completely rejected the notions like “India was created by the British”, saying that India is an ancient nation which had been in existence for centuries. He emphasized that India had its own cultural and geographical identity long before the arrival of the British. This statement of Bhagwat has come in the context of the recent RSS registration controversy.

“India is not a piece of land, it is a living nation.”

Mohan Bhagwat said, “Some people say that the British created India, this is completely wrong. The truth is that when the British were here, there was India, and when they left, there is still India. Our country is not just a piece of land, but an idea, a culture that has been going on for thousands of years.”

He further said that the basis of India’s unity is its spiritual and cultural heritage, and not the boundaries drawn by any external force.

What did you say on RSS registration controversy?

When he was asked about registering RSS as an organization, he gave a profound answer. He said, “Sangh is not a club or an organization, it is an idea, a movement. How can you register an idea? Sangh is the flow of the ancient culture of India which takes everyone together.”

He explained that RSS does not work within any structure, rather it is a disciplined organization working within the society which considers character building and service to the nation as its aim.

Called Hindutva not a religion but a way of life.

Mohan Bhagwat once again clarified his interpretation of Hindutva. He said, “Hinduism is not a system of worship or rituals, it is a way of life. It is the idea that the world is one family (‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’) and the paths may be different, but the destination is one.” He said that whoever believes in this idea is a Hindu, regardless of his method of worship.

This statement of Bhagwat is being seen as a response to the ongoing debates regarding the ideology of RSS and the identity of India.
