Bus accident in Punjab: Three women farmers were killed and several others injured in a bus accident in Punjab’s Barnala district on Saturday. These women were associated with Bharatiya Khedut Union (BKU) unity and were going to participate in the Khedut Mahapanchayat in Tohana, Haryana. Women and other workers were traveling in the bus at the time of the accident. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. This Khedu Mahapanchayat is being organized by Bharatiya Khedut Sangh (SKM).
Farmers under the banner of Samyukta Khedut Morcha (Non-Political) and Khedut Majboor Morcha (KMM) have been sitting at the Shambhu and Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 after stopping the Delhi march. Senior farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been on a fast at the Khanauri border since November 26 to put pressure on the BJP-led central government to accept farmers’ demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
In September 2024, the Supreme Court had constituted a committee under the chairmanship of former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Nawab Singh.
