New Delhi. Once again the call of a major movement is being heard in the country. The joint platform of ten central trade unions has announced on Monday that the nationwide general strike called on February 12 is going to be historic. According to Amarjeet Kaur, General Secretary of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), this time at least 30 crore workers from across the country will be part of this strike.

Last year, 25 crore people had participated in such demonstrations, but this time with the coming together of farmer organizations and various federations, this figure is set to break the record.

Effect of ‘Bharat Bandh’ will be visible in 600 districts

The unions claim that this time preparations for the strike have been made up to the block level.

Expansion: The effect of the strike is almost across the country. 600 districts Will be seen in.

Affected States: Amarjeet Kaur said that there will be a situation of ‘complete bandh’ in states like Odisha and Assam. At the same time, there are preparations for a widespread movement in other parts of the country including BJP ruled states.

Who included: Central Labor Union (CTU), regional unions, industrial organizations and agricultural labor unions have united to make this strike successful.

‘Aar Paar’ war on trade deal and labor code

There are mainly three big issues behind the strike:

Labor Code: Trade unions allege that the new labor code violates the rights of workers.

India-US trade deal: Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has described this trade agreement as ‘surrender’ for Indian agriculture. SKM has also demanded the resignation of Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on this issue.

MGNREGA: The emphasis of the agricultural labor unions is on restoring MNREGA to its full capacity and payment of dues to the workers.

Support of farmers: Movement will get a new edge

With the participation of United Kisan Morcha and agricultural labor unions in this strike, its form has changed into a big platform of ‘labor-farmer’ unity. Organizations say that the government policies are going to benefit the corporate houses and due to this the common laborers and farmers are being marginalized.

What will be affected?

The strike on February 12 is expected to affect banking services, transportation, industrial production and functioning of government offices. Traffic jam-like situations may occur especially in industrial areas and rural areas.
