The direct effect of snowfall on the mountains is now visible on the plains of western Uttar Pradesh. Bone-chilling icy winds and dense fog in the morning and evening have made life difficult for people. Many districts including Bareilly, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Meerut are in the grip of severe cold.
morning starts with dense fog
In most of the cities of Western UP, the morning is starting with a thick blanket of dense fog. The situation is such that it has become difficult to see even a few meters away on the roads, due to which the speed of traffic has slowed down. Vehicles are seen moving on the highway with their lights on. The administration has appealed to the people to avoid driving early in the morning unless it is absolutely necessary and if they have to go out, then take utmost care.
Not getting relief even during the day
Along with fog, icy winds have further increased the cold. Even though there is light sunshine during the day, it is not providing much relief. The cold winds are so strong that people are shivering even in the sun. As the evening approaches, the temperature drops rapidly, causing silence in the markets and streets.
Cold havoc in Bareilly and Moradabad
The condition of the districts of Bareilly and Moradabad division is the worst. There is not much difference between day and night temperatures here. People are forced to remain wrapped in warm clothes throughout the day and take the help of bonfires. Cold is having the biggest impact on the health of children and the elderly. Doctors have advised people to avoid cold and eat hot food items.
The Meteorological Department says that there is no hope of getting relief in the coming few days. Due to continued snowfall in the mountains, the severity of cold in the plains may increase further.
