Myanmar earthquake: In India’s neighboring country Myanmar, the earth was shaken by the rapid tremors of earthquake, causing panic among the people. According to the National Center for Sismology (NCS), the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 4.8 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred at 12:53 pm on Thursday midnight Indian time. The shocks were so strong that the doors and windows of the houses started shaking, and the voices of the utensils started coming. The scared people immediately came out of their homes.
Earthquake center and depth
The National Center for Sismology reported that the center of this earthquake was located at a depth of 106 km below the earth. However, there is no news of loss of life and property at the moment. The information has not been revealed whether the buildings have been damaged due to the shaking.
Earthquakes have occurred in Myanmar before
The tremors of Thursday night were not the first earthquake in Myanmar in this month. According to the National Center for Sismology, early this week, Myanmar had an earthquake of 5.1 magnitude. Earlier in December, an earthquake of intensity of 4.2 was felt.
Last week, earthquake tremors were felt in Myanmar, Afghanistan, Tibet and Philippines. There was an earthquake twice in the Philippines, while in Afghanistan too, two earthquakes of more than 4.0 magnitude were recorded on Thursday.
Why does an earthquake occur?
The main cause of earthquake is the movement of tectonic plates. These plates below the surface of the Earth collide with each other, move, or burst due to pressure, causing energy to come out and feel tremors of earthquake.
In addition, earthquakes can also come due to volcanic eruption, mine testing, nuclear testing and meteor effects.
How is the intensity of earthquake measured?
The intensity of the earthquake is measured on the Richter scale.
- Intensity of 2.0 or 3.0: Light earthquake, which is often not felt.
- A magnitude of 4.0 to 5.0: Medium-class earthquake, which can sometimes harm buildings.
- Intensity of 6.0 or more: Powerful earthquakes, which can cause great havoc.
Caution and awareness important
Although there is no damage in this earthquake of Myanmar, it reminds that it is necessary to always be vigilant for natural disasters such as earthquakes. It is very important to take refuge in a safe place during such shaking and to know about rescue measures taken during earthquake.
Even though this earthquake did not turn into a large tragedy, it is a warning for people in earthquake-prone areas like Myanmar that one must always be ready to deal with natural disasters.
