New Delhi, August 21 (HS). After facing fluctuations throughout the day, the domestic stock market today closed with gains after recovering from the lower level. Today's trading started with weakness. The bulls and bears kept trying to dominate each other throughout the day. However, after 1 pm, buyers were seen dominating, due to which the stock market closed with strength. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed with a gain of 0.13 percent and the Nifty closed with a gain of 0.29 percent.
During the day's trading today, the stocks of pharmaceutical, FMCG and metal sectors witnessed the most buying. Apart from this, health care, telecom and media indices also managed to close with gains. On the other hand, the stocks of power, realty and banking sectors remained in a downtrend today. There was continuous buying in the broader market today, due to which the BSE midcap index closed with a gain of 0.43 percent. Similarly, the smallcap index ended today's trading with a gain of 0.87 percent.
Due to the strength in the market today, the wealth of stock market investors increased by about Rs 2.5 crore. The market capitalization of companies listed on BSE increased to Rs 459.27 lakh crore (provisional) after today's trading. Whereas on the previous trading day i.e. Tuesday, their market capitalization was Rs 456.86 lakh crore. In this way, investors made a profit of about Rs 2.41 lakh crore from today's trading.
There was active trading in 4,038 shares on the BSE during today's trading. Of these, 2,611 shares closed with a gain while 1,340 shares showed a decline while 87 shares closed without any fluctuation. There was active trading in 2,388 shares on the NSE today. Of these, 1,556 shares closed in the green zone after making profits while 832 shares closed in the red zone after incurring losses. Similarly, out of the 30 shares included in the Sensex, 17 shares closed with a gain and 13 shares closed with a decline. While, out of the 50 shares included in the Nifty, 37 shares closed in the green zone and 13 shares closed in the red zone.
BSE's Sensex opened today with a weakness of 135.61 points at 80,667.25 points. As soon as the trading started, buyers and sellers started trying to dominate each other, due to which the movement of this index also kept fluctuating continuously. Due to the pressure of selling, this index fell by 176.48 and reached the level of 80,626.38 points. However, after 1 pm, buyers made their strength, due to which this index jumped more than 325 points from the lower level and reached the level of 80,952.83 points with a gain of 149.97 points. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed at the level of 80,905.30 points with a gain of 102.44 points.
Like the Sensex, NSE's Nifty also started today's trading with a fall of 18.30 points at 24,680.55. As soon as the market opened, a tug-of-war between the bulls and the bears began and the index kept fluctuating continuously. Due to the selling pressure, the index slipped 44.35 points to 24,654.50, while due to buying pressure, the index jumped 89.10 points to reach 24,787.95 points. After the whole day's trading, the Nifty closed with a gain of 71.35 points at 24,770.20 points.
After a day of buying and selling, among the big stocks of the stock market, Divi's Laboratories rose by 3.76 percent, Titan Company by 2.46 percent, SBI Life Insurance by 2.23 percent, Cipla by 2.03 percent and HDFC Life by 1.96 percent and were included in the list of top 5 gainers of today. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra fell by 1.47 percent, UltraTech Cement by 1.31 percent, Tata Steel by 1.31 percent, Power Grid Corporation by 1.13 percent and ONGC by 0.73 percent and were included in the list of top 5 losers of today.
