We all know that Ravana, the king of Lanka and his giant brother Kumbhakarna were killed by Lord Rama. But do you know that this was not just a story of him, but he was born on earth twice before, and every time he was killed by some avatar of Lord Vishnu? It would be surprising to hear that Ravana and Kumbhakarna were not an ordinary monster, but a cursed souls who had direct relations with Lord Vishnu themselves!

After all, who were Ravana and Kumbhakarna in their previous birth?

Actually, Ravana and Kumbhakarna were none other than, but in Baikunth, there were two beloved gatekeepers, Jai and Vijay of Lord Vishnu. Once Sanakadi Char Kumar came to see Lord Vishnu. These sages were in the child form, but there was no limit to their knowledge. At the door, Jai and Vijay stopped him from going inside, because God was resting at that time. The sages felt bad about this and cursed Jai-Vijay that you will go to Patal Lok and be born in the demon vagina!

When Jai and Vijay apologized, Lord Vishnu appeared and requested the sages to forgive them. The curse could not be back, but Lord Vishnu gave an option to his gatekeepers. He said that either you will be my devotee as my devotee on earth, or you will be my enemy only three births and every time you will be saved from my hands. Jai and Vijay chose a three -born path, because they did not want to stay away from God for a long time.

And thus the liberation of God in three births:

1. First birth: Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashyap
   Jai and Vijay were born in the first birth as a great brother, Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashyap. Hiranyaksha was slaughtered by Lord Vishnu in his Varaha avatar, when he tried to hide the earth in the sea. At the same time, God had to take Narsingh avatar to kill Hiranyakashyap, because he had received the blessings of immortality from Brahma ji.
2. Second birth: Ravana and Kumbhakarna
   This was the birth that we all know. In Tretayuga, Jai was born as Dashanan King Ravana of Lanka and Vijay was born as his younger brother Kumbhakarna. In order to kill Ravana, Lord Vishnu himself had to come to earth as Shri Ram in human form, and Kumbhakarna also got salvation at the hands of Shri Rama. This shows how the death found in the hands of Lord Rama was also a path of liberation.
3. Third birth: Shishupala and Dentavakra
   In the third and last birth, both of them were born as Shishupala and Dantvakra in the Dwapara Yuga, who were staunch enemies of Lord Krishna. Shishupala was killed by Lord Krishna with his Sudarshan Chakra in a full gathering, when he crossed the limits of saying 100 abusive words. Dantwakra was also killed by Krishna in battle.
