India on Friday completely rejected two recent Washington Post reports. The American newspaper had claimed in one of its reports that the opposition party of Maldives had sought US $ 6 million help from India to remove President Mohammed Muizzu from power. In another report, it was claimed that India’s intelligence agency, RAW (Research and Analysis Wing), was involved in the alleged killings in Pakistan.

India has denied these allegations and has raised questions on the credibility of the newspaper. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “This newspaper and its journalists have a clear animosity towards India. A pattern can be clearly seen in his writings. I leave it to you to assess the credibility of this report, because for us it has no credibility.”

Earlier, Washington Post had claimed in its report that India was involved in a conspiracy to remove Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu. The newspaper, citing a document titled “Democratic Renewal Initiative”, had reported that opposition leaders had proposed to bribe 40 members of parliament, including members of their party, to impeach the President. The report also said that despite months of secret negotiations, the conspirators failed to muster the votes needed to impeach the President.

However, the head of Maldives’ largest opposition party, Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) and former President Mohamed Nasheed also rejected the claim. He said he had no knowledge of any serious conspiracy against the President and India would never take such a step. “India has always supported the democracy of Maldives and has never tried to impose conditions on us,” Nasheed said.

Commenting on Pakistan, Randhir Jaiswal reminded an old statement of former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in which she had said, “You cannot keep snakes in your courtyard and expect that they will bite only your neighbors.”

Apart from this, Washington Post in another report had claimed about India’s intelligence agency RAW that it has carried out a systematic program to kill about half a dozen people in Pakistan since 2021.
