New Delhi. There is good news for millions of meritorious students of India. It is often seen that many promising students of the country leave their studies midway only because the financial condition of their family is not good. Rising school-college fees, expensive books and hostel expenses are no less than a big challenge for poor and middle class families. To overcome this crisis, the Central and State Governments have extended a helping hand under Government Scholarship 2026. This scheme is no less than a boon for those students whose dreams stand in the way of poverty. Through this scheme, financial assistance of up to Rs 48,000 is being sent directly to the bank accounts of eligible students annually.
These classes will get priority benefits
This special scholarship is mainly designed keeping in mind the students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC). The government has resolved that no talented child of the country should be left out of the mainstream of education due to lack of money. To ensure transparency, the entire scholarship amount is sent through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). To avail this benefit, it is mandatory for the student to be an Indian citizen, have a valid caste certificate and be studying regularly in a recognized institute.
Strict income limit and eligibility standards
It is important to understand the eligibility conditions before applying for a scholarship. For SC and ST category students, the annual family income should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh. Whereas for OBC category, this limit has been set between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh as per the rules of different states. Along with this, the student is required to obtain minimum passing marks in his/her previous class. It is a matter of relief that more than one child of the same family can take advantage of this scheme to improve their future.
Assistance amount is decided on the basis of course
The amount received under this scheme depends on the educational level and course of the student. Children from class 1 to 10 are mainly provided assistance for uniform, books and stationery. At the same time, along with tuition fees, ‘Maintenance Allowance’ is also available at Intermediate (12th), Graduation and Post Graduation level. If the student is studying by staying in a hostel, then the government also bears his living expenses. Especially students pursuing professional courses like Medical, Engineering, Law, Nursing and MBA are given the highest financial benefits.
