UP EV subsidy new rules 2025: If you live in Uttar Pradesh and are planning to buy a new electric vehicle (EV), then this news is very important for you. The Uttar Pradesh government has changed a rule regarding EV subsidy, due to which some vehicles may now become more expensive instead of being cheaper. The government has made it clear that not everyone will get the benefit of tax exemption from October 14, 2025.

What is this new rule that will change everything?

In simple words, now 100% exemption in road tax and registration fees in Uttar Pradesh will be available only on those electric vehicles which are manufactured or assembled within Uttar Pradesh. That means, now the tag of ‘Made in UP’ will save you thousands of rupees.

If an electric vehicle is made in any other state or foreign country, then you will not get this discount on purchasing it. This step of the government is to invite EV manufacturing companies to the state and to make Uttar Pradesh a big manufacturing hub, so that the people here can get employment.

How will you get this subsidy?

If you want to get the benefit of subsidy, then you will have to prove that your car is made in UP only. For this, a “UP Manufacturing/Assembly Certificate” It is important to have.

Once you buy the car, you will have to apply online for the subsidy on the government’s EV portal. After this your RTO (Transport Office) will check your vehicle and documents. You will be given tax exemption only if everything is found correct.

What will be its impact on buyers? good or bad?

This rule will have a direct impact on the common buyer, and it has both aspects:

• advantage: With this rule, new EV manufacturing companies will come to UP. This may reduce the prices of ‘Made in UP’ vehicles in future and people will get new job opportunities.
• Loss: This is bad news for those who like vehicles from companies like Tata, MG, Ather or BYD. Since these companies do not currently manufacture their vehicles in UP, hence now their vehicles will not get subsidy, due to which they will become costlier than before.

What was the rule earlier?

Let us tell you that the Uttar Pradesh government had launched its EV policy on 14 October 2022, in which road tax and registration fees were waived on all electric vehicles for three years. Apart from this, direct subsidy of up to ₹5,000 on two-wheelers, ₹1 lakh on cars and ₹20 lakh on buses was also being given. So far, about 17,600 people have taken advantage of it, and thousands of applications are still pending.
