The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is going to make a huge change in the ticket booking system, which will be implemented from October 1, 2025.

According to the new rule, now it will be mandatory for you to link your IRCTC account with Aadhaar card to book online train tickets. If your account is not linked to Aadhaar, you will not be able to buy tickets online from October 1.

Why was this rule changed?

IRCTC has taken this big step to stop the fraud and brokerage in ticket booking. Often you have seen that it becomes difficult to get tickets in festivals or peak season. One of the major reasons for this is that many travel agents and brokers block a lot of tickets by creating fake IDs and later sell them at high prices.

• Old Testament: Till now, linking the IRCTC account to Aadhaar was at your will. Without linking, you could book 12 tickets in a month and after linking 24 tickets.
• New rule (from 1 October): Now it will become mandatory. If you want to book a single ticket online, then your IRCTC account must be verified by Aadhaar.

How to link your IRCTC account to Aadhaar? (Step-by-step guide)

1. First of all, log in to the official website of IRCTC (irctc.co.in) or your user ID and password on the app.
2. Now go to the ‘My Account’ section and click on the option of ‘Aadhaar KYC’.
3. Enter your Aadhaar card number here and click on ‘Send OTP’ button.
4. A 6 -digit OTP will come on the mobile number registered with your Aadhaar card. Put it and click on ‘Verify OTP’.
5. Your Aadhaar details will fall on the screen. After checking everything, do ‘submit’.
