According to beliefs, this is the first Ekadashi of the new year which is considered to fulfill all the worldly wishes of the devotees. On this day Lord Vishnu is worshiped with rituals. When Gandharva Lalit got the curse of becoming a ‘demon’

In ancient times, there was a beautiful city named Bhogipur, which was ruled by King Pundarika. A Gandharva named Lalit and his wife Lalita used to live in that city. There was immense love between the two. One day Lalit was singing in the king’s court, but his attention got distracted by his wife Lalita. Due to lack of concentration, an error occurred in singing. When King Pundarika came to know about this insult, he got angry and cursed Lalit to become a ‘demon’.

Devotion to Lalita and guidance of Shringi Rishi

Due to the effect of the curse, Lalit’s body became huge and scary. He became a flesh-eating monster. Seeing the plight of her husband, Lalita became extremely sad. She started looking for ways to free her husband from this suffering. While wandering, she reached the ashram of Shringi Rishi on Vindhyachal mountain. Hearing his plight, the sage advised him to observe a fast on ‘Kamada Ekadashi’ of Chaitra Shukla Paksha.

Got divine form due to the effect of fasting

As per the sage’s advice, Lalita observed Kamada Ekadashi fast with full devotion and devotion and prayed to Lord Vishnu for the salvation of her husband. The next day, Lalita dedicated the virtuous fruit of the fast to her husband Lalit. Due to the effect of the fast, Lalit’s demon form immediately ended and he again became a divine and beautiful Gandharva. At last, both of them boarded the plane and reached heaven.

Importance and results of Kamada Ekadashi

According to religious texts, a person who worships Lord Vasudev and listens to the fast story on this day, gets the same results as Vajpayee Yagya. This fast not only provides mental peace, but is also the best way to atone for the sins committed knowingly or unknowingly.
