How to cancel wrong traffic challan online: “You have broken red light,” “Your vehicle was over-speeding,”… Sometimes due to the mistake of traffic police or CCTV camera, such challan message comes on our phone, even though we are not there at that time! In such a situation, most people get nervous and start thinking that now they will have to visit government offices and pay unnecessary fines.
But wait! Now times have changed. If there is no fault of yours, you do not need to pay even a single rupee. And the best part? You don’t even need to go anywhere. You can complain against this wrong challan and get it canceled from your mobile or computer sitting at home.
So why does this wrong challan get deducted?
Often this is due to a technical glitch, such as:
- The traffic camera mistook the number plate of someone else’s car as yours.
- Due to outdated information in the system.
- Due to some human error.
The easiest way to lodge a complaint at home (Step-by-Step)
This entire process does not take more than 10-15 minutes. Just follow these steps:
- Visit the government website: First of all, visit the official challan website of the transport department (echallan.parivahan.gov.in).
- Find the complaint option: An option like ‘Complaint’ or ‘Grievance’ will appear on the website, click on it.
- Fill in the challan details: Enter your challan number, vehicle registration number (RC number) and your registered mobile number.
- Support your case with evidence: Now you have to explain why the invoice is wrong. Please upload evidence to strengthen your point.
- Submit: After filling everything, hit ‘Submit’. You will get a unique complaint ID, keep it safely.
What evidence will be required to make the complaint ‘strong’?
The stronger your statement, the sooner the challan will be cancelled. So, please include some of the following as evidence:
- Photo of RC of your car.
- If you were somewhere else at the time of the challan, a screenshot of your GPS location at that location.
- Any selfie of yours from that time, showing time and location.
- Any paper to prove that you were not there at that time.
How will we know what happened to the complaint? (track status)
From your complaint ID, you can go to the same website and check the status of your complaint through the option of ‘Track Complaint Status’. Usually the decision comes in 7 to 15 days and you also get the information on SMS or email.
Some important things to keep in mind
- Don’t delay: Complain within 30-60 days of receiving the challan, otherwise the matter may go to court.
- Evidence is your power: Without evidence, your complaint may be dismissed.
- Be honest: Only use this feature if it’s really not your fault.
Now there is a need not to be afraid of the name of traffic challan, but to become aware and smart.
