Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced a 100 percent tariff on films made outside the US. Trump has said that the American film industry or Hollywood is ending very fast. This decision has been taken because other countries are trying to woo American filmmakers. Trump has said on social media that this is a strong attempt by other countries and hence it is a threat to national security. Hollywood and other areas of America are being destroyed. Trump has further said that we want films to be made again in America. The then Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik also posted a post on X in this regard. He said in the post that we are working on it.

It is worth noting that the film and television production in Los Angeles have declined by about 40 percent in the last decade. Trump has emphasized the need to return to domestic film production.

Trump has said that we want films to be made again in America. The aim of the new tariff is to make the competition ground uniform and encourage studios to continue operating on US soil.

Indian filmmaker is also in tension after Trump’s announcement. Not only Bollywood, a large part of the film revenue of Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam industries comes from America. If the US puts tariffs on foreign films based on shooting space or studio, it will cause huge loss to Indian production. However, all these things will be clear only when the tariff policy on foreign films in America is finalized and its details will be revealed.
