Washington: US President Donald Trump has said he plans to impose 10 percent tariffs on Chinese imports from February 1, starting with fentanyl, a highly lethal drug that is shipped by Beijing to Mexico and Canada. This decision of Trump may lead to a trade war between America and China which was seen recently.

“We’re talking about a 10 percent tariff on Chinese products, starting with fentanyl,” Trump said at a joint press conference at the White House on Saturday. Trump said he plans to impose a 10 percent tariff starting February 1. Also present at the meeting were Oracle CTO Larry Ellison, SoftBank CEO Sasayoshi’s son, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

According to the New York Times, Trump had imposed tariffs on more than $300 billion of Chinese imports in his first term. His successor, Biden, imposed additional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, solar cells, semiconductors and advanced batteries.

Trump said that we are talking about 25 percent tariff on Mexico and China. In response to another question, he said that when he spoke to Chinese President Xi Jinping last week, there was no specific discussion regarding tariffs.

When he was asked about the war in Ukraine, Trump said that China did not do much to stop this war. He has tremendous power. He said, “I told him that you should have resolved this dispute.”
