China’s action against officials
The order states that some Taiwanese politicians, government officials and social media influential people are behaving like “thugs” and helping the DPP “crime”. The Chinese administration says that if a person has been a victim of such harassment or has any information related to it, he can report it through this new channel. Beijing also assured that the identity of the complainants would be kept confidential and legal action would be taken against the culprits. However, it has not been clarified what kind of punishment these accused will be given.
Preparation to capture Taiwan
The move has been taken at a time when three Chinese social media influential people were recently expelled from Taiwan after openly advocating military occupation by the People’s Liberation Army on Taiwan. The Taiwan government says that his speech is a threat to social stability, while the opposition parties have attacked the freedom of expression. After this incident, relations between China and Taiwan have become more tense.
Taiwan President describes China as enemies
The Taiwan government is also tightening its security. President William Lai Ching-Tei recently called China a “foreign enemy” and claimed that China was trying to infiltrate Taiwan. He has talked about taking tough measures to strengthen national security, which includes re -activation of military courts and strict monitoring of cases such as espionage and treason. In addition, trade and social relations with China are also being brought under strict rules.
Action taken on Taiwan
China has earlier banned supporters of Taiwan’s independence. Last year, Taiwan businessman Robert Tsao and MP Puma Shane were banned from entry into the mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. Now the new order has increased the concern in Taiwan that China can target not only the local people but also Taiwan supporters living abroad. This may further increase tension between Taiwan and China.
