US Congressman: US MP told Pakistani delegation, make every effort to eliminate Jaish-e-Mohammed

News in Dia Live, Digital Desk: US Congressman: Senior US Congress Brad Sherman on Friday told a Pakistani delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari that Islamabad should make “every effort” to eliminate the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) and to ensure the safety of religious minorities within the country.

The Pakistani delegation met Sherman on Thursday during his visit to Washington, with a separate Indian multi -party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. The Indian side is in the American capital to inform the US MPs and officials about the country’s resolve to fight terrorism after Operation Sindoor and the deadly Pahalgam attack.

In several posts on X, Congress Sherman wrote: “I emphasized the importance of fighting terrorism to the Pakistani delegation, and especially from the Jaish-e-Mohammed Group, who killed Daniel Pearl, a resident of my constituency in 2002. Parl’s family still lives in my district, and Pakistan should make every effort to end this hateful group and fight terrorism in the region.

The Jaish-e-Mohammed Group, who was declared a terrorist by the United Nations, was responsible for kidnapping and heading the Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl in Karachi in 2002. Umar Saeed Sheikh, a terrorist of British -origin, was convicted of plotting the murder.

Sherman also expressed concern over the behavior being done with religious minorities in Pakistan. He said, “Christians, Hindus and Ahmadiyas living in Pakistan should be allowed to follow their religion without violence, oppression, discrimination or fear of uneven justice system and participate in a democratic system.”

‘Release Dr. Shakeel Afridi’

American MP Also urged the Pakistani delegation to pressurize Dr. Shakeel Afridi for the release. Afridi is the doctor who in 2011 helped the CIA detect Osama bin Laden by running a fake vaccination campaign to collect DNA samples of Laden’s family. Afridi was arrested immediately after the Abbottabad raid and was later sentenced to 33 years in jail.

Sherman said, “Releasing Dr. Afridi is an important step for the 9/11 victims.”

Although the objective of the visit of Bhutto delegation was to internationalize the Kashmir dispute, but the MP’s message was clear – Pakistan should take reliable action against terrorism generated from its land.
