News India Live, Digital Desk: President Donald Trump Signed a new executive order to restore the travel restriction policy from his first term. He cited national security concerns to enforce the ban. The announcement, which is effective on Monday, has a complete entry ban on citizens of 12 countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Irritriya, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
In addition to complete restrictionsThis order also bans travelers from seven other countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. These partial restrictions limit access to specific visa categories and especially affect non-resident and non-resident visa applicants.
The administration justifies these measures by cited inadequate investigation procedures, high rate of living over the visa period, increasing concerns over terrorism and unstable regime in affected countries.
Trump said in his manifesto, “I have to work to protect the national security and national interest of the United States and its people.”
The list is the result of an executive order issued by Trump on 20 January, in which foreign and home security departments and National Intelligence Directors were asked to compile a report on the “hostile attitude” towards the US and also to explain whether the entry from some countries is a threat to national security.
The move has further echoed Trump’s controversial 2017 “Muslim ban”, which faced significant legal challenges and was eventually retained in a modified form. According to critics, this new restriction inconsistently targets Muslim -majority countries. This can also cause tension in international relations. However, supporters argue that this is an important step for national security.
The executive order also includes provision of advanced investigation and screening measures for all foreign countries seeking admission in the United States.
