Wedding celebration turned into morning: A shameful and tragic case of dowry greed has come to light from Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. On the wedding day here, the groom refused to marry only after getting a fridge, one lakh rupees cash and a TV in dowry. The bride’s family, waiting for the procession to come, was stunned to know that the groom and his family are not ready for marriage if the demand for dowry is not met. This incident is from the Sapnawat area under Dhaulana police station area of Hapur.
The family members of the bride’s side told the police in Tahrir that even after everything was decided, the groom side made additional demands in dowry just before the wedding. He alleges that a few hours before the procession, the groom’s father demanded ₹ 1 lakh cash, a fridge and an LED TV. The bride’s family said that they had already spent about ₹ 7 lakh in the wedding and were unable to meet such a huge additional demand. He tried to convince the boy side several times, but he remained adamant on his demands and refused to marry.
After this unexpected and tragic incident, the bride and her family broke. The family immediately informed the local police. The police have registered a case against the groom and his family under various sections including the Dowry Prohibition Act on the complaint of the bride side. As soon as the report was filed, the entire family of the groom escaped from the house. Police said that a team has been formed to search for the accused and soon they will be arrested and legal action will be taken. This incident once again shows that dowry is a serious social evil that is ruining many lives.
